St. Vincent and the Grenadines left the 20th Pan American Championships with a bronze medal on the weekend. The team that represented the nation in San Jose, Costa Rica was made up of 2019 Carifta Games 800m bronze medalist, Handal Roban, Canadian based triple jumper, Mikiesha Welcome, Kahlil Cato as coach and Alexandra Walrond as Manager/Chaperone.
On Friday, July 19th, Roban ran in the semi-final of the men’s 800m, finishing 5th in a time of 1:52.69 seconds. His place did not earn him a berth in the final.
Welcome, in her first outing representing her home country, fared better, as she placed 3rd in the women’s Triple Jump, the following day. On her second of 6 jumps, she leapt to a personal best distance and national record of 13.15 meters, which was enough for the bronze medal.
Welcome returns to Canada on Monday, July 22nd, while the rest of the team returns home on Tuesday July 23rd.
