A 42-year old Cuban health worker who was assigned to the corona virus or COVID-19 task team in Dominica has collapsed and died.
At a press briefing held on Wednesday 6th May, Dominica’s Health Minister Dr. Irvin McIntyre announced, “… last evening, there was an unfortunate incident where one of the Cuban Medical Brigade suddenly collapsed. He was a 42 year old male.”
Dr. McIntyre did not reveal the full name of the deceased, but expressed deepest sympathies and condolences on behalf of the government and people of Dominica, to the Cuban Medical Brigade in Dominica and the Cuban people.
Dr. McIntyre disclosed that the Cuban healthcare worker came to Dominica on March 29th as part of the Cuban COVID-19 Medical Brigade and completed 2 weeks (14 days) of quarantine in Portsmouth.
He was then assigned to the COVID Isolation Unit at the Princess Margaret Hospital where he worked from the 16th – 20th April, 2020.
After completing his work schedule from the 16th -20th April 2020, he again completed another quarantine, which is the normal protocol – 2 weeks after being to a COVID facility.
It was further reported that the deceased Cuban Medical Brigade in Dominica was due to begin work again, when he suddenly collapsed. He was supposed to have started work at the accident and emergency department.
Health Minister McIntyre described the death as “a very sad day” for the Cuban Brigade and for Dominica.
DOMINICA COVID-19 UPDATE:
Out of the two Active Cases in Dominica, Two of them will be retested this weekend with PCR Testing.
Minister McIntyre reported that it’s been 28 days since the last positive case. He believed that this was largely due to: the closure of borders, effective contact tracing and isolation, efficient primary health care team, the ability to have in country testing, compliance by the public with the public health and social measures implemented and finally, the team effort involving all stake holders.
