Former school principal Mrs. Maureen Brackin says that the next New Democratic Party (NDP) government will rectify several burning injustices across the education system including the inability of all secondary school students to access science labs and learn a foreign language.

Mrs Brackin who made her presentation at a recent NDP Virtual Public Meeting said, “Under an NDP government, St. Vincent and the Grenadines will rise again.”

“Sometimes it is very heart wrenching to see the numerous young men and young women just liming on the blocks, day by day still waiting for the jobs they were promised. Where are the jobs?”

“There are many parents who have to juggle to send their children to school. People can’t eat [ah] food”.

“The government boasts of an education revolution. Well if you want to ask about education, ask Maureen Brackin”.

“As a former principal, I can tell you, that I became, many times emotional when I see students reach grade 6 level and still can’t read. My brothers and sisters, do you know what it is like when you can’t read?”

The retired principal who said she is proud of associating herself with the opposition party because it stood for integrity told listeners, “My people, I urge you to vote for the NDP and the man who has a plan and an obsession for job creation in this country. Our leader, Dr. Godwin Friday”.

She bemoaned the high rates of unemployment in the country.

“Many persons continue to receive contracts upon contracts, clogging up the public service system and robbing our youths of an opportunity to gain employment”.

“When our students return home from universities, they cannot find jobs. Many become very hopeless as they watch others unfairly filling the positions that they are not qualified for, all because of political affiliation”.

Mrs Brackin repeated the NDP manifesto promise that students sitting CSEC subjects will have these paid for under an NDP administration.

She states that “an education revolution can only be good when it helps to strengthen all citizens of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. When all Vincentians can breathe again”.

Mrs Brackin, as a former school principal you should be ashamed of yourself when you mentioned that there are children who reach grade 6 and cannot read. It is under your stewardship as a principal that they were unable to read. The government is responsible for putting the infrastructure in place, the responsible then falls on you and your teachers to ensure that people’s were able to read.
