Unstable conditions associated with ‘Hurricane Teddy’ are expected across the island chain tonight/early Saturday, with gradual increase in cloudiness across St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). Cloudiness, showers and thunderstorm activity can be expected Saturday, decreasing during the night/early Sunday; but lingering instability and day-time heating may trigger showers and thunderstorm activity during Sunday and Monday.

Light (less than 10 km/h) southerly breeze can be expected tonight, becoming calm at times. Gradual increase in wind speeds is likely during Saturday, becoming moderate (up to 30 km/h) by Sunday and wind direction could turn east north-easterly by late Monday.

‘Teddy’ is now a CATEGORY 3 HURRICANE near 23.1 N, 57.0 W and generating long period swells which travel far and fast. Northerly swells are expected along the coastal waters of SVG tonight, which are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip currents as they slow down abruptly. Small craft operators and sea-bathers should exercise extreme caution for these northerly swells, peaking near 1.2 m on western coasts and near 2.5 m on eastern coasts. Swell heights could gradually fall during Sunday, ranging 0.5 m to 1.5 m across SVG by Monday.
