Students in Grenada have performed well at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) exams despite concerns raised about grades across the region.

At today’s post-cabinet media briefing Minister of Education Emmalin Pierre said Grenada is not currently in a position to join the other countries who are pressing the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) for answers.

“Based on our observation of the results, we do not believe that we can say that there is anything significantly different to what has happened over the years as it relates to queries and concerns from our schools and students,” Pierre said.

Only three students have made formal requests for their results to be reviewed, according to Pierre.

She however pointed out that Grenada saw many successes at the 2020 exams.

The minister highlighted two students from the Grenada Boys Secondary who passed 18 and 16 CSEC subjects. This is the highest number of CSEC subjects taken and passed by a Grenadian.

A total of 17 schools reported an overall pass rate of 80 percent.

Pierre has thanked students, teachers and parents for their hard work.

A total of 2,302 students wrote CSEC exams from Grenada in 2020.

Meanwhile, Michelle Peters-George — Deputy Chief Education Officer Testing and Measurement — said Math and English saw the most students with only one student writing Music.

She said 77.03 percent of students were able to achieve acceptable grades.

Music, theatre arts, and Mechanical Engineering all had 100 percent pass rates.

Just over 43 percent of Grenadian students, who took Math in 2020, passed.

But, students recorded improved performances in 22 subjects including French.
