On the same day that Guyana recorded its 124th Coronavirus related death and 45 new cases, the Government has announced that the national curfew and a number of other COVID-19 measures are being relaxed.
With effect from Sunday 1st November, the curfew will be from 10:30 pm to 4am, allowing more outside time for citizens. Restaurants and gas stations will now be allowed to keep their doors open until 9:30pm.
Additionally, gyms will be allowed to reopen but at 50% capacity and sports events will be allowed to resume but under strict guidelines.
Non-essential travel to Regions 1 and 9 are still restricted.
The updated guidelines also reveal that schools may be re-opened by the Ministry of Education subject to compliance with the measures in the guidelines and any additional instruction that would be provided by the Ministry of Education.
The Minister of Education recently told News Source that any plan to reopen schools will be based on advice from the Health authorities and it will likely be done in a phased manner, with students preparing for the CSEC and CAPE examinations likely to return first on a shift system arrangement.
Most of the other health guidelines remain in place.
Guyana today recorded its 124th COVID-19 related death. 42 of those deaths were recorded in this month of October, making it the deadliest month for the pandemic in the country so far.
41 deaths were recorded last month.
