At least 82 police officers in Grenada are now infected with coronavirus (COVID-19)

Deputy Commissioner of Police Michael Francois announced last evening that all officers, who are on leave, will be called out to fill vacancies within the police force.

“This is significantly affecting the operations of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF),” he told the media while noting that his officers are pushing ahead as they are committed to the country’s safety.

“We are affected and will continue to be affected as other police officers get infected. And as it stands, we would like to have the fullest cooperation of the general public as we continue to ensure Grenada remains safe in this period.”

Francois said all of the infected police officers are experiencing mild to moderate symptoms of COVID-19 and are being monitored by health officials.

In an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 due to an infected person being arrested, everyone who comes into the RGPF’s custody will be tested for the virus and infected persons will be isolated.

Surfaces will also be sanitised frequently and both prisoners and police officers will be socially distanced.

Francois is encouraging police officers to get vaccinated.
