    Maurice Bishop Vs Ralph Gonsalves

The last conversation we had on Mitchell versus Gonsalves motivated some readers to ask me to write something on Maurice Bishop versus Gonsalves, seeing that Gonsalves said early on in his political journey that he was going to take up from where Maurice Bishop had left off.

Maurice Bishop’s four year revolutionary reign is light to Ralph Gonsalves’ twenty years of darkness.

Parents did not pay for their children’s uniform, books, transportation, snacks and lunch. University education was free. Teachers used to go to the farming communities to help in the literacy/adult education programmes- even helping them with their business plans, etc. (similar to what went on with JEMS under the Mitchell reign in SVG).

Dental/Medical care was paid for by the state of Grenada.

Under Bishop’s reign the crime rate went down, poverty and illiteracy was almost zero. The people of Grenada were united under Bishop’s leadership, but a few Marxist-Leninist communists caused the untimely death of one of our great Afro-Caribbean leaders, Maurice Bishop.

Under Ralph Gonsalves our people are divided, and it was proved by the last election where the majority voted against Gonsalves’ leadership.

Children out of secondary schools can’t read and analyze properly. Nationals have to pay for dental/medical care. The rich and well-to-do seek medical care overseas. There was no national agricultural plan for the past twenty dark years of Gonsalves’ reign. Farmers now live on handouts.

If you look into the first exporting of medical cannabis from SVG by Caribbean Cannabis Company, you will see the son of a Caribbean prime minister in the ownership, while the traditional marijuana growers are living like fish out of water.

The main difference between Maurice Bishop and Ralph Gonsalves is that Bishop was a servant-leader and Gonsalves a manipulator and dictator.

Then you ask how under the heavens was Gonsalves able to manipulate the people for such a long time? Weak opposition leadership. Every general election, the opposition is crying, “Ralph thief…”

The productive engine under Gonsalves has stopped working. Even the clock on the Financial Building in Kingstown stopped since Gonsalves’ reign.

Long live the memory of Maurice Bishop.
