Hanif Forbes, 40-year-old mason of Spring Village, Georgetown, will stand trial before Judge and Jury on five charges, in connection with the January 22, 2022 shooting death of truck driver, Joshua ‘Cabbage’ Pompey of O’Brien’s Village.

At the Serious Offences Court, last week Thursday, following a Paper Committal Procedure, Forbes was committed to stand trial in the High Court trial for the murder of Pompey, and assaulting Pompey’s wife Lakeitha Harris-Pompey of O’Brien’s Village, causing her bodily harm.

He was also committed to stand trial for unlawfully discharging a loaded firearm at Pompey with intent to injure; possession of a firearm without license; and entering the home of Pompey’s wife and stealing one bottle of Gonsalves black wine valued at EC$30, one bottle of Pure Heaven non-alcoholic wine valued EC$25, and one bottle of Jamaican Brandy valued EC$35.

After witness statements, and other relevant material of the case were reviewed by the Prosecution, defence, and Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne, the Magistrate ruled that there was sufficient evidence for Forbes to stand High Court trial on all charges. He was represented by attorney Ronald Marks.

Pompey was shot around 12:05am on January 22, while his wife, an auxiliary police officer, was reportedly assaulted shortly before midnight on January 21.

The offences of burglary, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and possession of a firearm without license, were reportedly committed around 11:40 p.m. on January 21.

All five offences are said to have occurred at O’Brien’s Village, and stemmed from the same incident.
