As the nation comes to grips with the senseless surge in murders and violent crimes, Rise Hairouna makes a clarion call for action to end violence against women and children in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

We are of the firm view that the escalation in crime and violence, including brutal murders, is a manifestation of a deep-rooted social problem – the lack of respect for human life and the moral decay of our Vincentian population. As a people, we must stand against such heinous acts of violence, and we must speak up against all forms of violence in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The most recent murder of Precious, a teenager who was only 17 years old from the community of Walvaroo, has captivated the nation and has raised important discussions on the age of consent, the role of the police in investigating domestic violence and missing persons, and more broadly the brutal treatment of our women and girls in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Rise Hairouna is calling on all right-thinking Vincentians to stand in unity and solidarity with the victim’s families in a Candlelight Vigil on Saturday 21st May 2022 at the Sion Hill Playing Field starting at 6:00 pm to demand justice for Precious and all other victims of violent crime.
