Bahari Dopwell, a 20-year-old Paul’s Avenue resident who was recently granted bail by the High Court, after being denied bail by the Serious Offences Court, on a robbery charge, is before the Court again on two more charges of a similar nature.

Dopwell was taken before the Serious Offences Court on Monday after being charged with, being armed with a gun, robbed Allando Miller of Diamond of two gold plated chains valued EC$200.

He is also charged with, being armed with a gun, robbed Shanel Browne of Glamorgan of a workbag valued EC$750, a Samsung cellular phone valued EC$700, a green and red cellular phone case valued EC$30, a Digicel sim card valued EC$35, a black 8GB SD card valued EC$35, hair gel valued EC$50, an umbrella, keys and EC$40 in cash.

The non-cash items carried a total value of EC$970.

Both offences were reportedly committed in Kingstown on Friday, June 17.

Dopwell was not required to plea to the indictable charges when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne at the Serious Offences Court on Monday, and was remanded, following strong objections to bail by Prosecutor Renrick Cato.

The Prosecutor told the Court that Dopwell was already on bail on charges of a similar nature. (See earlier reference.)

Cato also noted that one of the conditions of bail imposed by the High Court was a dusk to dawn curfew.

Dopwell, who was unrepresented, is slated to return to the Serious Offences Court on August 8.

On April 25 this year, Dopwell was taken before the same Court after being charged with the robbery of Vincentian-born Methodist Minister, Rev. Adolf Davis, and two others.

They were reportedly relieved of cash and multiple items to the tune of hundreds of dollars.

Dopwell is alleged to have used a gun in that incident which was allegedly committed on March 26, 2022.
The Chief Magistrate had indicated that she was not considering bail and remanded Dopwell.

In objecting to bail then, Crown Counsel Allana Cumberbatch had told the Court that Dopwell was on bail for a similar offence when he was held in relation to those offences, and that he was placed on a 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew as one of his bail conditions.

However, we understand that Dopwell subsequently applied and was granted bail by the High Court.
