Vandyke ‘Dez’ King, a former security officer who was employed at the Argyle International Airport (AIA), will be sentenced at a later date at the High Court Criminal Assizes, for the murder of his once common-law wife MicKeisha Gumbs, 26, of Park Hill.

King, 35, also a former police officer, pleaded guilty to murder when the indictment was again put to him on Tuesday, at the request of his lawyer Duane Daniel.

The matter was called for case management, with a view to trial, when King opted to plead guilty to the capital offence. The Prosecution accepted the plea.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Sejilla McDowall has been leading the case for the prosecution, but Crown Counsel Kaylia Toney held paper for the DPP, during the proceedings on Tuesday.

Justice Brian Cottle has adjourned presentation of the facts, and sentencing, to a date to be fixed by the High Court.

Gumbs died as a result of a stabbing incident at Park Hill on March 7, 2020, the eve of International Women’s Day.

King was serving as a security officer at the AIA at the time of his arrest. He was 33.
