Eighteen-year-old Joel Williams of New Montrose was, on Wednesday granted $14,000 bail with one surety when he appeared in Court on firearm and ammunition charges.

He is charged with possession of a Glock .27 pistol, and five rounds of .40 ammunition, without licenses.

Williams pleaded not guilty to both charges when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne at the Serious Offences Court on Wednesday.

Williams was wearing the uniform of a secondary school, but Court Clerk, Sergeant Atnel Ash informed the Court that Williams was no longer in school.

But Williams’ attorney Grant Connell responded, “That was not in instructions”.

Sergeant Ash indicated that the Prosecution was not objecting to bail, but requested suitable surety and conditions, including a curfew, to which the Chief Magistrate agreed.

As part of his bail conditions, Williams was placed on curfew between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily. He was also ordered to surrender all travel documents, and report to the Central Police Station on Mondays and Thursdays. Stop notices will be placed at all ports of entry and exit, and he is not to leave the state without permission of the Serious Offences Court, or the High Court. He will return to the Serious Offences Court on November 10.
The charges stemmed from a police action at New Montrose in October.
