Post of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – Seven (7) players from Windward Islands were selected to participate in the West Indies Under 19 Female camp. The training was held in Trinidad and Tobago in preparation for the Tour to India. A total of twenty three ( 23) players were in the camp.

The players included West Indies senior player Jannillea Glasgow and Windward Islands Under 19 captain Zaida James. The other players were Abini St Jean, Destiny Edward, Namiah Marcellin, Selena Ross, and Earnisha Fontaine.

Windward Islands Under 19 Girls Head Coach, Cleton Burnett said he was satisfied by the progress of the young ladies to gain such selection. “It indicates some progress of the young ladies over the last two years to have gained selection to a West Indies camp. This is very encouraging, and hopefully, it will inspire other players to stay disciplined and keep working hard,” expressed Coach Burnett.

Windward Islands Technical Director, Miles Bascombe, also shared his satisfaction. “It is satisfying to see the girls getting further development opportunities. Over the last year, WICB has invested heavily in the Under 19 Girls program, so such selections are small wins against our measurables and an indication that we are headed in the right direction,” said Bascombe.

Over the last year, Windward Islands Cricket Board has hosted the USA Under 19 Girls and Trinidad & Tobago Under 19 girls in separate tours. Subsequently, the Windwards Under 19 Girls placed 3rd in the West Indies Under 19 Girls tournament.
