……..Flash-Flood Advisory upgraded to a Flash-Flood Watch….
Occasional cloudy skies and showers associated with a trough system will continue to affect the Eastern Caribbean including St. Vincent and the Grenadines. On Tuesday, a
deterioration in weather conditions is anticipated as the upper-level environment
becomes more supportive.Consequently, shower activity is expected to increase in
frequency and intensity during the next few days. The forecast into Thursday calls for
cloudy to overcast skies, pockets of moderate to heavy showers and isolated
thunderstorms.
The latest forecast model guidance suggests rainfall accumulations of 50-75
millimeters (approximately 2-3 inches) with isolated higher amounts in mountainous
areas. Due to the saturated nature of the soils resulting from previous rainfall events,
there is a high probability of flash-flooding and landslides occurring during the watch
period.
As a result, the flood advisory that was already in effect for a low risk of flooding, has
been upgraded to a Flash-Flood Watch for St. Vincent and the Grenadines until further
6:00 pm, Thursday 24th November, 2022. Residents and motorists in areas prone to
flooding and landslides or near rivers and streams should exercise caution.
A Flood-Watch is issued when conditions are favourable and there exists the possibility
of flooding during the watch period.
This flash-flood watch may be upgraded to a warning if conditions warrant.
