Heads I Win, Tails You Lose

Like many village roads across the country, Union Island roads are one-lane roads. There are no dividing lines and consequently in any collision involving your vehicle, you are in the wrong and the other party is too. Even if the law says you are right, your insurance goes up and you still end up paying.

The law says that the teachers, nurses, civil servants, and policemen were right as per Judge Esco Henry’s ruling; that their firings were unconstitutional, a breach of natural justice, unlawful, procedurally improper, and void. This should be the happy ending of this story with workers returning to their jobs, but apparently all must “come back to Papa,” as the Government continues its practice of fruitlessly prosecuting its own people with an appeal that is doomed to failure. Additionally, the people are apparently being persecuted also when they demonstrate against unjust laws.

If appeals of this nature were to be heard expeditiously, within 3 months, the wait would have been tolerable, but the estimated 2 to 5 years would amount to cruel and unusual punishment for the workers who have already suffered for almost 2 years waiting for the favorable high court judgement. This undoubtedly amounts to injustice, since “justice delayed is justice denied.”

The supreme court of the USA does not hear every case. This matter needs to conclude with a denial of any application for a stay of execution of the judgement. We should not make a mockery of our justice system by allowing Papa to win even when he loses. This time it should be “heads I win, tails you lose.”
