Minister of Agriculture Saboto Caesar says that he believes there is potential for a $20 million horticulture industry here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Minister Caesar during an interview with the API noted that with the imminent opening of several hotels across the country, there will be significant demand for flowers at these establishments, and he does not want to see SVG becoming a nation that imports flowers at a large scale.
“I think we could easily have here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines a $20 million industry annually, that would include exports as well, and we have to also take into consideration that many of our neighbours, you’re speaking about other islands around us in OECS, they are importing so the markets are right here on our doorsteps and we have to act and act now” he said.
Minister Caesar noted that during his recent visit to Cuba, that the area of horticulture was one that was looked in terms of gaining assistance for its development here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
