The newly installed North Leeward Sports and Cultural Organization (NLSCO) executive has released an ambitious calendar for sports and culture in the constituency for 2024.

The month of February will witness the first events, in the form of male and female softball cricket. In March, the organization will host a beach football competition, the National Heroes Day 5K Meet, and a cultural extravaganza.
April will see an exciting Tri Tri Fest event.
The month of May will experience hosting of the Miss North Leeward Pageant for the first time. The NLSCO believes that by removing the pageant from June to May 4th, greater emphasis will be paid to the event since it would not coincide with all the activities that takes place during the carnival season.

Between May and June, the NLSCO will host carnival-related activities, as well as a football clinic and another Tri Tri Fest.
July to August have been earmarked for the development of youth in the constituency, as the organization hosts a youth football tournament and a cricket clinic. The public can also expect the return of youth cricket.

From August to October, North Leeward will be buzzing with activities; these include hardball cricket, Tri Tri Fest, Independence Athletic Meet, Independence Futsal/Fast Five Netball, Independence Cultural Activities, and netball, basketball, and table tennis clinics.

The year of activities hosted by the NLSCO will conclude between November and December with the hosting of basketball, table tennis, Christmas/cultural activities, and the final Tri Tri Fest event.

President of the North Leeward Sports and Cultural Organization (NLSCO), Elron Lewis, said that the year of activities is a complete package. “Our main focus is the development of sports and culture in North Leeward, and the aim is to make sure that all these activities come off so the youths in North Leeward can be given an opportunity to showcase their talents,” said Lewis.

He said that the clinics outlined in the schedule are intended to assist the youth in the various sporting disciplines. “It is to help them develop their skills while they are young. So we basically will go into the schools and get the youths who are interested in sports and do some clinics, so that they can develop the basics,” Lewis further noted.

Public Relations Officer of the North Leeward Sports and Cultural Organization, Kenville Horne is appealing to the general public to come out in full support of the activities. “ We want to ensure the overall development of sports and culture in the constituency and the only way we can be successful is with the support from the public,” said Horne.

He said that since the new executive was elected in September, 2023, “We have hosted a number of events including a successful Futsal and netball tournament, as well as a major sports award to recognize the sporting and cultural talents in North Leeward.”
