On May 11th 2025, fifty-eight (58) children presenting with scoliosis and other
spinal conditions from St. Vincent and other neighboring islands of the Eastern Caribbean were
evaluated by a visiting World Pediatrics’ Scoliosis team at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (“MCMH”).
Led by Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Matthew Cage, the team identified and scheduled ten (10)
children who would undergo corrective scoliosis surgeries between Monday 12th May and Thursday 15th
May 2025.
Joining Dr. Cage on this trip were Dr. Yashar Javidan, Pediatric Orthopedic Co-Surgeon; Dr. Ashley Soppe,
Anesthesiologist; Lauro Moncada, Neuromonitoring Specialist; Caitlin Biven, Surgical Technician; Chelsea
Brice, Recovery/OR Nurse; Emma Bartholomew, CRNA; and Neil Ross, Globus Instrument Representative.
They were also supported by Miranda Davis, WP Caribbean Program Coordinator, and Romi Newman,
WP Director of Marketing & Communications. Additionally, local Pediatric General Surgeon Dr. Jasmine
Davy-Ellis and nurses from MCMH provided vital assistance.
“This type of care is difficult and expensive to access independently within our region, so it is a privilege
to work alongside the visiting teams to help bridge the gap and get the families the help they need.” Dr.
Davy-Ellis stated.
World Pediatrics, the medical team and volunteers extend our most heartfelt appreciation to Globus
Medical and the NuVasive Spine Foundation for sponsoring this trip and continuously supporting our aim
to heal the children of the Caribbean.
