Ambassadors representing Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Marshall Islands have reaffirmed their commitment to closer cooperation on climate resilience, sustainable development and ocean conservation.

    The commitment came during a courtesy call on 8 June between Kenton X. Chance and Anjanette Kattil in Taiwan.

    According to information released following the meeting, the two diplomats discussed issues of common concern to small island developing states (SIDS), with particular emphasis on the challenges posed by climate change and the need for sustainable ocean governance.

    The discussions focused on the vulnerabilities shared by island nations, including the impacts of rising sea levels, extreme weather events and environmental degradation.

    Both ambassadors highlighted the importance of international cooperation in addressing those challenges and strengthening resilience among island states.
    They also highlighted the critical role of the ocean in supporting the economies, livelihoods and cultures of island communities, while stressing the need for the sustainable use and conservation of marine resources.

    The meeting further examined the importance of partnerships and collective advocacy in advancing the interests of small island developing states at regional and international levels.

    The talks concluded with both ambassadors reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and maintaining close cooperation on issues including climate resilience, sustainable development and ocean conservation.
