The Bequia Musicfest Committee under the auspices of the Bequia Tourism Association promises to deliver on its 20 year reputation of offering world class entertainment over the course of 5 days and 6 events.

Festivities get underway from Wednesday 29th 6:30 local time with “an elegant evening of jazz music and [a] three course dinner at De Reef.” The cast includes BAM, Barbadian jazz vocalist Kellie Cadogan, Vincentian violinist Darron Andrews and St. Lucian jazz legend Boo Hinkson.

Thursday 30th would see the 14 piece Elite Steel Orchestra waxing musical from 9 o’clock at the Frangipani Hotel to be followed by a DJ Addicted powered after party.

Friday Nite Live would kick off at 8pm on the 31st and is expected to be “an amazing night of live entertainment at the Bequia Plantation Hotel featuring the Rodney Small Band from SVG, Shuffle Demons from Canada and Kevan Sahai and the Crashers from Barbados,” according to bequiamusicfestival.com.

The action returns to the Bequia Plantation Hotel where the midday rendezvous dubbed “Music Under the Palms” is set to start at 1 p.m on Saturday 1st. Anticipated performers include Joshu, Bequia Blues Band, Zeeteah Massiah, Martinique’s GBK and “a few surprise guests.”

Then from 9 pm on Saturday ‘the island that rocks’ would pump to the Fete Nite At De Reef vibes of the K-netik Band, Chewalee, Hypasounds, Jamesy P, Olatunji and DJ Addicted.

Bequia Kids on Pan, Dymez & Da Pixel, Sita, Keith Currency and more would bring the curtains down at Soca Sunday from 2:30 p.m.

“We have worked hard to have an excellent Festival so I’m sure it will be. A lot of hard work has gone into it,” Festival committee director Sabrina Mitchell told ANN when we caught up with her on Tuesday.

Several local restaurants have partnered with the producers to ensure “that the Festival offers the highest standard of hospitality.” Some of the finest on Bequia, these partner restaurants also provide meals to the visiting musicians.

They include Tantie Pearl’s Restaurant, Laura’s, Gingerbread Café, Mac’s Pizza & Kitchen and Sailor’s Café to name a few.

Mount Gay Rum continues its title sponsorship of the Bequia Music Fest since it was so named in 2009. Other sponsors include Caribbean Compass Publishing, Master Room Music, Bequia Express Company, SwiftPac, Grenadines Partnership Fund and the SVG Tourism Authority amongst others.

This year tickets are not available online but could be had at the Bequia Tourism office which is situated at the entrance to the ferry docks.
