A male teen from Jamaica has been charged with breaches of the Dental Health Act in The Bahamas following accusations that he has been posing as a dentist over the last five months.

According to Bahamas news media, Tribune242, the teen, 18-year-old Jahvonie Montague yesterday denied practicing and advertising himself as a dentist between October 28, 2018 and March 13 when arraigned before Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux.

The West Bay Street resident is said to have further denied being found in possession and/or control of various dental health appliances, equipment or supplies without the proper authority, which he used to practice dentistry or perform dental work, on March 13.

Tribune242 said Montague has since been remanded and the matter adjourned until Thursday.

The teen is reportedly married to a Bahamian woman who is understood to be pregnant.

Tribune242 further reported that the magistrate indicated that Montague’s official status in the country would have to be confirmed by the Department of Immigration.

Montague was charged under the Dental Health Act as opposed to the Penal Code and as such the magistrate will be using the adjournment to “review the matter and to ensure that the proper law is applied to Montague’s case”
