    THE GOVERNMENT AND PEOPLE of St. Vincent and the Grenadines PREPARE TO WELCOME HER EXCELLENCY PRESIDENT TSAI ING-WEN ON HER CARIBBEAN TOUR

    SAINT VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES, July 12, 2019 – The Government and People of St. Vincent and the Grenadines will welcome Her Excellency Tsai Ing-wen, President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for a two-day state visit from July 16 – 17, 2019.

    Her Excellency’s visit to St. Vincent and the Grenadines is part of a Caribbean region tour which has been deemed as “President Tsai Ing-Wen’s Journey of Freedom, Democracy and Sustainability. She will travel to Haiti, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Saint Lucia”. President Tsai tour of the region is aimed at further strengthening cooperation, exchanges and friendship between Taiwan and its four (4) Caribbean allies.

    President Tsai’s delegation will comprise of high government officials including the Foreign Minister H.E. Jaushieh Joseph Wu and the Secretary-General of the National Security Council Dr. David Tai Lee, as well as legislators and business representatives. The trip is her first to the region as Head of State and seventh abroad since assuming Office in May, 2016.

    On July 16, 2019, President Tsai will hold talks with Prime Minister Dr. The Hon. Ralph E. Gonsalves; meet with representatives of “Taiwan’s MOFA Alumni Association” and the 2019 “Taiwan Scholarship” Recipients. While in the country, Her Excellency will attend a Special Sitting of Parliament at the House of Assembly and visit the Botanical Gardens for a tour and tree planting ceremony.

    In honour of the President’s visit and the long standing relationship between both countries an Achievement Exhibition of the Technical Cooperation will be held at the National Public Library followed by a free cultural showcase by the Formosa Circus Art at the Victoria Park on the 16th and 17th July, 2019. The showcase will commenced at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday July 16, and 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday July 17, 2019.
