(Guardian ) Po­lice are now in­ves­ti­gat­ing the theft of equip­ment and in­fra­struc­ture at riv­er banks which is be­ing blamed for some of the flood­ing now be­ing ex­pe­ri­enced.

Yes­ter­day sev­er­al ar­eas around the coun­try were in­un­dat­ed with wa­ter af­ter hours of rain caused by the in­clement weath­er due to the pas­sage of Trop­i­cal Storm Karen.
Speak­ing at a news con­fer­ence ear­li­er this af­ter­noon Min­is­ter of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty Stu­art Young said the Min­istry of Works and Trans­port has found such breach­es to ar­eas where work has al­ready been done to al­le­vi­ate flood­ing.


He said this in­for­ma­tion is up­set­ting and he asked the po­lice to in­ves­ti­gate. He as­sured that any per­son who is caught will be brought to jus­tice. The sen­ti­ments were echoed by Min­is­ter of Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment and Rur­al De­vel­op­ment Kaz­im Ho­sein and Min­is­ter of Agri­cul­ture Clarence Ramb­harat, Min­is­ter of Works and Trans­port Ro­han Sinanan and Min­is­ter of Pub­lic Util­i­ties Robert Le Hunte, who were al­so present at the news con­fer­ence.


Mean­while, Min­is­ter Ho­sein in­di­cat­ed that at least 500 fam­i­lies in Bam­boo were af­fect­ed by the flood­ing and some peo­ple had to be evac­u­at­ed. How­ev­er, in terms of in­ci­dents, Min­ster Young said there were no re­ports of any­one be­ing in­jured due to the bad weath­er.
