    Issued: 4:00 pm Friday, 21st August, 2020

A Flood-Watch is issued when conditions are favourable and there exists the possibility of flooding
    during the watch period.
Tropical Depression thirteen (13) was upgraded to Tropical Storm Laura at 9 am this morning and at 2:00 pm,
the centre of “Laura” was located near 17.0N, 60.8W or 175 miles east south east of the Northern Leeward
    Islands.

Instability associated with “Laura” could continue to generate moderate to heavy showers and
thunderstorm activity across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines into tomorrow.

In addition, this system will generate wind speeds between 12 – 28 mph (20 – 45km/h) with higher gusts near showers.

Some stations across St.Vincent have already recorded significant rainfall accumulations today and there is a
possibility of an additional 25mm – 50mm (approximately 1-2 inches) with isolated higher amounts in
    mountainous areas into Saturday.
Soils in some areas are saturated and some rivers remain inundated. As a result, a Flash-Flood Watch is
in effect for St. Vincent and the Grenadines from 4:00 p.m today, August 21st 2020 until 12:00 Noon
    Saturday 22nd, 2020.

Residents and motorists in areas prone to flooding and landslides or near rivers and streams should
    exercise caution.

In addition, sea conditions would be moderate in open water with swells between 2.0m and 2.5m. Small
craft operators and sea bathers should exercise caution for above normal sea swells and gusty winds.

This flood watch may be upgraded to a warning if conditions warrant.
