A 50-year-old Port Kaituma, North West District man was arrested on Saturday last after he was caught having intercourse with a woman who died from COVID-19 complications.

Leroy Chacon of Trainline is expected to appear in the Port Kaituma Magistrate’s Court Tuesday via zoom. He is expected to be charged with trespassing with the intent to commit a sexual offence.

Regional Commander, Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan told the News Room that Chacon was not tested for COVID-19 but has since been placed in a quarantine facility under Police guard; he will be tested after 72 hours.

The News Room understands that Chacon was caught performing the indecent act on the corpse of the 56-year-old woman who died on September 21 after displaying COVID-19 symptoms. A COVID-19 test later confirmed that she tested positive for the disease.

The woman’s body was being stored at the Port Kaituma Mortuary when Chacon visited the mortuary at about 07:45h and attempted to perform sex on the body.

The incident was reported to the Police and Chacon was arrested.
