    Guyana – Port Kaituma man pleads guilty to sex act on COVID-19 corpse

    A 50-year-old man from Port Kaituma, North West District who was caught engaged in a sexual act with the corpse of a woman who died from COVID-19 has pleaded guilty to the crime. He will be sentenced today.

    The unemployed man, Leroy Chacon, appeared before the Matthew’s Ridge Magistrates’ Court yesterday and pleaded guilty to trespass with intent to commit a sexual act.

    According to the prosecutor, on the morning of September 26, Chacon was caught performing the indecent act on the corpse in the Port Kaituma Hospital mortuary.

    The matter was reported to the police and an arrest was made.

    The woman passed away five days before after being hospitalized with COVID-19 symptoms.
