The legal profession in St Vincent and the Grenadines saw the admission of Guevara J Leacock to its halls on Monday February 1st 2021.

Leacock’s application was presented to the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court by veteran Attorney at Law and former speaker of the House of Assembly Jomo Thomas and seconded by Zita Barnwell, also an Attorney at Law. Her Ladyship Justice Nicola Byer presided over the call ceremony which took place via Zoom.

She was satisfied that Leacock was qualified as per the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court Act and of suitable character to be admitted to the local bar.Leacock, who resides in the United Kingdom holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with Honours from the University of Kent, a Post Graduate Diploma in Bar Professional Studies (the Bar Exams) from the University of Law and a Master of Laws (LLM) from Nottingham Law School in Corporate and Insolvency Law.

In 2016, he received a prestigious scholarship from the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn to complete his professional exams and was admitted to the Bar of England and Wales by said society in 2017 where he received the degree of Utter Barrister.

Zita Barnwell, a former English teacher of Leacock at the St. Vincent Grammar School expressed her elation to the court about how proud she was to second the application for her former student to be admitted to the local bar.

Leacock expresses gratitude to the Chambers of Thomas and Barnwell for facilitating his call to the local bar and hopes to be able to make a meaningful contribution to the practice and development of law in his native St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

His interests lie mainly in criminal, human rights and corporate law.
