In fulfillment of its mission to finance the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal two in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the Zero Hunger Trust Fund commenced on Tuesday March 9th distribution of food parcels to 349 beneficiaries of its Adopt a Classroom programme.

Grade Four students of Fair Hall government, Barrouallie Anglican, Barrouallie Government, Chateaubeliar Methodist and Mayreau Government and Grade Three students of Calliaqua Anglican, Clare Valley, Gomea Methodist and Rose Hall Government will receive a one-month food package valued at EC $200.

Grade Four students of Sandy Bay Government and Fancy Government will receive cheques also valued at EC $200 each.

The Adopt a Classroom programme commenced in 2016 when the Zero Hunger Trust Fund was established. At that time, Kindergarten students from seven school were adopted by the Trust Fund; in 2017, Kindergarten students from five further schools were added to the programme. These are the students who have now progressed to Grades 3 and 4 and they have been supported each year by the Trust Fund.

In addition to financing School Feeding the Trust Fund undertakes several other programmes including providing meal support to vulnerable persons over the age of 78 years. The ZHTF is financed from the proceeds of a 2% Telecommunications Levy, enacted in 2016.
