    Athletes Prepping For Overseas Meets

    Locally based athletes will this Saturday 20th March, return to the Diamond Track Facility for another in a series of Development Meets, with the view of making the cut for regional and international Championships.

    Saturday’s event, set to begin at 9:30am, will cater for competitions in the Under-13, Under-15, Under-17, Under-20 and Open categories.

    The Under-13 males and females will compete in the 60m, with the females running the 800m and the males the 1000m.

    Male and female competitors in the Under-15 category will run the 80m. The females will do the 1000m and the males the 1200m. Mixed teams (male and female) will do the 4 x 400m relay.

    Athletes in the Under-17, Under-20 and Open segments, are slated to run the 100m, 200m and 1500m.

    Competitors in the Under-13 and Under-15 categories will be seeking selection to St. Vincent and the Grenadines team to the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Age Group Championships in Nicaragua, in June.

    Athletes in the Under-17 and Under-20 age groups are putting their names up for possible places to this country’s team for the 2020 Junior Carifta Games, set for August 13 to 15, in Bermuda.

    The first Development Meet, and first event for Team Athletics SVG’s first event for 2021, was staged last Saturday at the same venue.

    Among the races contested were: 100m in all age groups as referenced earlier in this article, and genders; 400m and 800m in the Under-15, Under-17, Under-20 and Open categories.

    The Open category males and females crowned off the day’s activities with the 4 x 400m relays.

    Participation in last Saturday’s Development Meet was drawn from IT- DAT Academy, X- Cel, Troumaca Mustangs, X-Ceed Sports Club, High Performance, Chatoyer, the St Martin’s Secondary School, the St Vincent Grammar School, with one athlete who competed unattached.
