Senior Magistrate Rickie Burnett, who presides at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court, has expressed concern that legal counsel were not informing the Court that they would be out of state when cases they have before the Court are down for hearing.

Burnett described such behaviour as inconsiderate and said it wasted the court’s time.

He noted that that some legal counsel just do not show up, their cases are called and their clients have no representation.

He advised that a simple letter informing the court of their absence would be courteous.

Magistrate Burnett also took umbrage with some of the office operations in the Magistrate’s Court.

He observed that simple paper errors were hindering the smooth operation of the Court and called on the workers in the court system to be more meticulous in their preparation of paper work
