Roseau, Dominica – The Winlott Windward Islands Under 19 tournament gets on the way this Wednesday, July 6, in Dominica. Two matches will be played daily at the Windsor Park Stadium in Roseau and Benjamin’s Park in Portsmouth.

This year’s tournament will be a 2-day format. The tournament will be used to select the Windward Islands under 19 team to play in the West Indies tournament being hosted in St Vincent and the Grenadines during August.

Windward Island Cricket Board (WICB) Technical Director, Miles Bascombe said, “it is a golden opportunity for these young cricketers to play with the best of their age group across the Windwards. It gives each player a perspective of his game, with incalculable developmental value. The tournament is expected to be of a high standard, with players vying for selection on the Windwards Islands Under 19 team.”

WICB Vice President Dwain Gill echoed the sentiments of the TD. “These young cricketers have missed out on competitive age-group cricket in the region for some time due to the pandemic, so it is great to have the resumption of this critical tournament, particularly from a development perspective. There is, of course, the additional motivating factor of players getting a chance to make a Windward Islands team and represent their territory,” said VP Gill.

Dominica hosted the last Windward Islands Under 19 tournament in 2019. St. Vincent and the Grenadines won.

There will be live streaming of one match per round. Updates will be provided on social media throughout the tournament via Windwards Volcanoes, with scorecards updated on the website daily windwardscricket.com.
