The principal of the St Joseph Convent Kingstown (SJCK) has refuted the claim that drugs, positive pregnancy tests and guns were recovered in a random search conducted at the school on last Friday. One source told ANN, “One student was cutting up Marijuana at the back of the class and a search was conducted where the items were found”.

When ANN contacted the Principal of the School, ‘ Sister Martha’ for confirmation on the incident and to find out whether the Police and the Ministry Education were called in, she replied: ”Random search is not unusual at the school. One of our school rules is that devices are not allowed on the compound. There was no gun or positive pregnancy test found and procedures were followed accordingly.

She went on to say, “searches are done weekly and we haven’t found nothing that we hadn’t found in other searches”.

When asked to be more specific about items that were recovered in the search, she confirmed that mobile phones and tablets were found.

Further investigation by this Media House lead to a guardian of one of the students who was directly involved in the incident confirming that she was called in by the school because her child was caught vaping.

Another parent reached out to ANN asking if the Network heard about the incident at the school. The parent said: “My daughter said some students were vaping they searched the whole class and they found weed too”.

One student also confirmed to ANN that police were on the compound after the incident occurred. We couldn’t verify if it was related to the above-mentioned incident.

ANN contacted the school’s principal again for comment to no avail.

When ANN contacted the Public Relations Department of the RSVGPF they claim no record of such an incident was on file.
