    St. Lucia and SVG are undefeated after Round 2

    Castries, St. Lucia – After two days of the Winlott Windward Islands Boy’s U15 tournament, St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) are unbeaten.

    Day One

    SVG started their campaign with a comfortable victory against Grenada at Gros Islet, winning by six wickets after reaching the target of 100 runs in 11 overs. Winning the toss, SVG opted to field first. Jordan John and Raekeim Charles put on a first-wicket partnership of 65 before the dismissal of John for 22. After that point, there were regular dismissals before the team capitulated for 99 in the 40th over. SVG’s captain Jorden Charles had an impressive outing, capturing 7 wickets for just 10 runs in 9 overs.

    In response, the young Vincentians rushed to a total of 102 for 4 in 10.5 overs. Cody Slater top scored with 24. Aravinda Bishop did cause some moments of worry taking 2 wickets for 7 runs in 1.5 overs.

    At Daren Sammy Cricket Grounds, St Lucia played Dominica. St Lucia on the foundation of a first-wicket partnership of 187 runs between captain Theo Edwards and Leon Alexander, reached 435 for 6 in 50 overs. Theo Edwards went on to score 198 with 30 fours and 4 sixes in his stroke-filled innings. Two other contributors for the St Lucians were Leon Alexander with 58 and Johnathan Daniel with 54. Lybird Darroux took 4 wickets for 53 runs for Dominica.

    In response, Dominica reached 137 runs in 27.4 overs. There was a regular procession of batters to the dressing room until captain Kenneth Valmond came to the wicket to join opener Earsinho Fontaine. The two put together a partnership of 78 runs before the fall of the captain. Fontaine lasted two more overs and then the rest of the team scored 24 runs for 5 wickets allowing St Lucia to take a massive win of 298 runs.

    Day Two

    The second day of the tournament saw St Vincent and the Grenadines come up against Dominica at Gros Islet and St Lucia came up against Grenada at Daren Sammy Cricket Grounds.

    At Gros Islet, Dominica batting first only had two batters reaching double figures, Earsinho Fontaine (10) and Jay LeBlanc (14). They were dismissed for a total of 60 runs in 22.5 overs. Leading the bowling for SVG was pace bowler Elran Glasgow picking up 5 for 22 in 7.5 overs.

    SVG got to the total in 17.2 overs but after losing 8 wickets. Cody Slater (22 runs) was the only player getting into double figures, but was enough to secure victory. Kenneth Valmond was impressive with 5 for 15 in 5 overs.

    At Daren Sammy Cricket Ground, St Lucia won the toss and elected to bat first. Occupying the crease for all allotted 50 overs again, the St. Lucians scored a huge total of 482 for 8. Captain Theo Edward followed up his massive score from the previous day with another century getting 101 in 81 balls which featured 16 fours and 1 six. Vice-captain and wicketkeeper Johnathan Daniel was the leading batter in this match, getting to 142 in 91 balls with 17 fours and 8 sixes. Aaron St Clair 68 and Cody Fontinelle 60 also had useful knocks. Xzavion Rock was the pick of the bowlers for Grenada taking for 4 wickets for 90 runs in his 10 overs.

    Grenada was only able to reach 79 in 23.2 overs. Stand-in captain Jayonn Henry 25 and Xzavion Rock 11 were the two contributors. The wickets were shared by all the bowlers the Leon Alexander again being the leading bowler with 3 for 14 in 5.2 overs.

    Round Three

    Matches continue in the Winlott Windward Islands Boy’s Under 15 Tournament on Wednesday. At Gros Islet, Dominica plays Grenada and at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground, the two table leaders (St. Lucia & St. Vincent and the Grenadines) clash.
