A small contingent of 4 Blue Marlins CARIFTA Aquatics hopefuls, participated in the BASA Long Course National Championships in Barbados from 27th February to 4th March 2024. The aim of participating in such a swim meet was to make qualifying times for events in a 50m pool for the upcoming CARIFTA Aquatics Championships to be held in the Bahamas over the Easter weekend. The swimmers gave a good account of themselves placing in the top 5 for the majority of the races and making a number of personal best times.  The four amassed a total of 16 medals.

Caghry Williams, 11-12 male age group swimmer, took home 7 medals. He copped silver in the 100 m freestyle,  the 50, 100 and 200 m breaststroke and bronze in 50 m butterfly,  200 m freestyle and 200 m IM.

Male 13-14 age group swimmer, Hazen Da Briel finished with 6 medals. He got gold in the 100 and 200 m breaststroke events and silver in 100 and 200 m butterfly as well as  the 200 and 400 m IM events.

Tayeah St. Hilaire, a 13-14 female age group swimmer got a silver in 100 m butterfly and bronze in 200 m butterfly.

Belle Adams, swimming in the 11-12 female age group, took home a bronze medal in the 100 m butterfly.

The team’s coach said she was quite pleased with their performances,  especially since the young swimmers had recently completed the Gallagher Invitational Championships at home and without a break jumped right into another competition and were able to produce personal best times.
