Some minibus operators working along the Gomea, Collina, Evesham and Carriere routes will withdraw their services on March 25 and 26.

ANN received a letter signed by eight minibus operators/owners who have agreed to suspend their operations on both days due to what was termed as ‘deplorable’ conditions of the road in those areas.

According to the letter released on March 22, it certified that the minibuses operating public transport routes between Gomea and Carriere have agreed to participate in an official strike on the 25 and 26 of March 2024.

“This strike action have been agreed on to protest the deplorable conditions of the roads in the area that have been neglected and without significant repair for years,” the letter stated.

“This agreement states that the following listed minivans will not be conducting any business on the aforementioned strike days and agree that if no action is taken by the relevant authorities to repair the roads, further strike days will be provisioned,” it continued.

    Among those minibuses participating in the impending strike action are ‘Reload’ HX8, ‘Talker’ – H2508, ‘Prestige’ – H5906, ‘Preetiboi’ – HV623, ‘Tidal’ – HE540, ‘Swack’ – HK710, HE74 and ‘Gifted’ – HP129.

Back in February 2015, minibus operators/owners operating in Gomea and Belair took strike action to protest the condition of the roads.

They resumed their services after a half-day of action after the then Minister of Transport and Works, Senator Julian Francis met minibus operators and owners and agreed to have work started on the areas highlighted as being problematic.

Three days later, the said minibus operators/owners again took strike action after government failed to maintain its promise to begin fixing the roads.
