The Caribbean Digital Transformation Project (CARDTP) has started a three-day workshop in St. Vincent and the Grenadines to implement a Single Window for Land and Property Transactions. The workshop will focus on the governance, management, and sharing of spatial or land use data and information, the establishment of a digital parcel-based land information system, and the establishment of an electric single window for land and property transactions. After the workshop, CARDTP will prepare terms of reference and requests for proposals to implement each item.
Prime Minister Dr. Gonsalves highlighted that the existing system for land and property transactions is time-consuming, expensive, and inefficient, and needs to be changed. The new system will work in the best interest of all consumers because it is faster, cheaper, and accurate. The project is part of the government’s overall quest to build a modern economy.
Minister with responsibility for Lands Montgomery Daniel emphasized that land is a limited resource in high demand, and land management is crucial. Lands are needed for housing, agriculture, infrastructure, and recreation, and these are competing issues for the scarce land available for development. Despite the best efforts of successive administrations, there continue to be significant problems in land management.
CARDTP aims to increase access to digital services, technologies, and skills by government, businesses, and individuals and is being implemented throughout the Windward Islands. The project in St. Vincent and the Grenadines is being funded through a loan of US$30 million from the World Bank.
