Coolers and glass bottles are among some of the items that are not allowed into any Cricket World Cup 2024 venues.
This country is set to host its first official Cricket World Cup match in just under a month on June 13 and patrons are reminded of just some of the behaviour and items that are prohibited at the venue.
During the laying of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Cricket World Cup West Indies Bill in Parliament on May 9, Frederick Stephenson, Minister of Sport listed some of these items as presented in the Bill.
According to the Bill, the throwing of stones, bottles or any other missiles or the use of any other dangerous object; the disruption, interruption of behaviour in such a manner that may disrupt or interrupt any CWC 2024 activity or disrupt or interfere with the comfort of persons at the matches are strictly prohibited.
So too, interfering with the equipment of any person taking part in the CWC 2024 activity; operating or using a loudspeaker, public address system or any other broadcast device or any other device that may interfere with the electronic or radio communications unless authorized by Cricket West Indies (CWI) are also prohibited.
Persons are being asked to desist from conducting surveys or opinion polls, soliciting money, donations, or subscriptions from members of the public unless authorized by CWI.
Items including dangerous objects, weapons, or any article capable of being used as a weapon are restricted from entering the venue.
The sale of goods and services are also forbidden at any of the CWC 2024 venues during a match.
Stephenson said that among the prohibited items at all World Cup venues were animals, except service animals, bicycles, commercial video and or photographic equipment, audio equipment, compressed gas canisters and other flammable items, dangerous items or weapons including forearms, explosives, knives, flares, fireworks and laser pointers.
Drones or unmanned vehicles, glass bottles or metal cans, narcotics – other than prescribed – offensive or political signage and promotional or commercial materials are also not allowed.
Making up the restricted items list include coolers, lunch boxes larger than 30x30x30 centimetres, fold up chairs not intended for the mounds, large banners and flags, flag sticks above 1.6 metres in length, musical instruments that cannot fit under your seat or lap, or is louder than 70 decibels, tents and umbrellas not intended for mounds.
“As to our commitment, we had to ensure the smooth running of Cricket World Cup [and] we had to put the necessary legislation in place,” Stephenson said.
He added that person(s) found breeching any of the rules are liable to face penalties or may be asked to leave the CWC 2024 venue.
