Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines — Leader of the Opposition and President of the New Democratic Party (NDP), Dr. Godwin Friday, has called on the government to accelerate its recovery efforts following Hurricane Beryl and to enhance communication with those affected. In a press release issued today, Dr. Friday emphasized the critical need for clear information on when and where people can access essential supplies, citing significant gaps in the current communication strategy.

“The government must act urgently in setting out the recovery plan as well as a plan to support local businesses and farmers who have been affected by the hurricane,” Dr. Friday said.

Dr. Friday, along with Members of Parliament and constituency caretakers from the NDP, has been visiting the most severely affected areas, engaging with residents whose lives have been upended by the storm. The damage, he noted, was particularly severe in the Grenadines but has also impacted homeowners, business owners, and farmers across the country.

“Our country is facing a huge challenge to help all those who have lost their homes and livelihoods as a result of Hurricane Beryl,” Dr. Friday said in a video address. “While the damage was worst in the Grenadines, it was felt across the country by homeowners, business owners, farmers, and many more.”

The NDP leader reiterated his party’s commitment to aiding recovery efforts but stressed the necessity for a more robust response from the government. He urged for an immediate and comprehensive cleanup and recovery plan to address the widespread devastation.
