In the wake of Hurricane Beryl’s devastation, St. Vincent Electricity Services Limited (VINLEC) is issuing a critical appeal to residents of Canouan, Mayreau, and Union Island. As clean-up operations progress, the company is urging all individuals to exercise extreme caution to prevent further damage to the power infrastructure.
VINLEC has been conducting comprehensive assessments of the damage across the islands and is preparing to dispatch teams to clear debris, including fallen poles and power lines. However, unauthorized actions such as cutting distribution lines, dismantling poles, or tampering with transformers pose a significant risk and will inevitably prolong the restoration process.
“We recognize the immense challenges our customers are facing in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl and deeply appreciate the community’s support during this arduous restoration period,” a VINLEC spokesperson stated. “Your cooperation is crucial. Our dedicated teams are working tirelessly to ensure power is restored to all affected areas swiftly and safely.”
The utility company emphasized the importance of public cooperation to expedite the recovery and safeguard the integrity of the power grid, ensuring a quicker return to normalcy for all residents.
