Prime Minister Dr. Hon. Ralph Gonsalves emphasized the critical role of creative work in national recovery during a speech at the recent press launch for the event love and laughter featuring Jamaican comedian Oliver Samuel along side other industry creatives.
He stated, “As we celebrate emancipation, we have a lot of work to do as it relates to freeing our minds. The products of the cultural activities we will see are acts of solidarity, done in faith, hope, and love. Faith is the substance of that which we hope for and the evidence of that which we have not seen.”
During the event, various sponsors and participants shared their support and reasons for backing the Homegrown International Product, led by cultural ambassador and show producer, Darron Andrews.
Oliver Samuel himself expressed his admiration for the event and the island, noting his appreciation for the Prime Minister’s participation.
Darron Andrews thanked the Prime Minister and sponsors for their support, announcing that last year’s event raised $7,000 for the maternity ward, and this year’s proceeds will again focus on aiding displaced mothers.
