On September 1, 2024, the Rotary family in St. Vincent and the Grenadines launched Basic Education and Literacy Month with a successful Back-to-School edition of their Rotary Village Doctor project. Held at the Canouan Secondary School, the initiative provided free medical care and essential supplies to over 224 residents.

The project, supported by corporate partners such as Massy Stores Ltd. and Courts Unicomer Ltd., saw Rotary Club of St. Vincent, Rotary Club of St. Vincent South, and Rotaract Club of Kingstown team up with local volunteers. The event featured a team of 13 medical professionals, including doctors and nurses, who offered on-site medical consultations and prescriptions, facilitated by the SVG Pharmaceutical Association and Express Pharmacy.

Sono SVG contributed with ultrasound and X-ray services, while Eyes R Us donated 25 eye care vouchers and spectacles valued at EC$12,500. The “Free Market” aspect of the event provided 75 backpacks with school supplies and other essentials, thanks to contributions from St. Vincent Co-operative Bank Ltd., Digicel St. Vincent Ltd., and Jax Enterprises Ltd.

Additionally, Massy Stores Ltd. distributed water and food packages to the elderly, and Courts Unicomer Ltd. donated pillows, mattresses for the school’s Sick Bay, and a microwave oven for the Canouan Police Station.

The Rotary Village Doctor project was made possible through the efforts of numerous partners, including Mr. James Lane, who donated the chartered vessel, and Bequia Express Co., which facilitated transportation. Mandarin Oriental also supported the initiative by providing lunch for volunteers.

The Rotary family remains committed to enhancing lives through various service projects.
