The Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) held its Prize-Giving ceremony at Victoria Park, marking a significant transition as current CEO Ashford Wood prepares to vacate his position. CDC Chairman Ricardo Adams commended Wood for his contributions, hinting that “something is in the pipeline” for him.
Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves emphasized the importance of the CDC in representing Mas Bands, Calypsonians, and Steel Bands, urging stakeholders to better organize and meet their members’ needs. He challenged them, asking, “When did you abandon your responsibility for being part of the CDC?” Gonsalves also called for a review of festival operations and expressed concerns over the CDC’s decision to open a bar without stakeholder consultation.
Minister of Culture Carlos James expressed hope that money will be set aside in the next budget to secure a permanent home for Mas Bands, a topic that has been under discussion for two decades.
Top performers of Vincy Mas were recognized, with Raeon “Madzart” Primus winning the Calypso Monarch title.
