Following the incident where a student fell from a moving minivan near the St. Joseph’s Convent Secondary School on September 12, 2024, both the driver and conductor of the vehicle have had their licenses suspended. The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) launched an immediate investigation after a video of the incident, showing the van’s door open while in motion, circulated on social media and sparked public concern.

Jerden Jacobs, the driver from Green Hill, was charged with multiple traffic violations under the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Regulations, including:

Driving without a licensed conductor on board.

    Driving in a dangerous manner.

Permitting the conductor to ride outside the vehicle.

Playing a musical instrument in a public place without permission.

The conductor, Joelando Browne, also of Green Hill, was charged for:

Acting as a conductor without the necessary permit.

Riding the vehicle unsafely, outside the designated area.

As a result, both Jacobs and Browne had their licenses suspended by the Commissioner of Police, who acted in accordance with Section 48(1) of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Regulations. This action underscores the RSVGPF’s commitment to road safety and sends a strong message against reckless behavior, particularly when it endangers passengers, including children.

The RSVGPF urges all road users to adhere strictly to traffic laws and encourages the public to report any traffic violations or suspicious activities to help ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens.

For emergencies, contact the police at 999 or 911.
