Unstable conditions combined with a supportive upper-level environment are affecting the islands, bringing the potential for heavy rainfall. Forecasts predict 2-3 inches of rain, with higher amounts in mountainous areas, from tonight into Monday. Cloudy skies, light to heavy showers, periods of light rain, and isolated thunderstorms are expected.
Rivers in the northern part of the mainland are already surging, and additional rainfall may impact residents and road users further downstream. As a result, the weather advisory has been upgraded to a Flash-flood Watch, in effect until 6:00 pm on Monday, 7th October 2024.
Residents and motorists in flood-prone areas, near rivers and streams, or in areas prone to landslides should remain alert. A Flood Watch means conditions are favorable for possible flooding, and the watch may be upgraded to a warning if conditions worsen.
