I’ve been quite entertained by the recent chatter on CBI in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines—truly, it’s been theatre. But among the cast of characters, none plays the tragic clown better than Luke Browne. A political puppet, with Ralph Gonsalves holding the strings.
Imagine the audacity—Luke, the man who has spent more time losing elections than winning arguments, now wants to masquerade as a principled opponent of the CBI programme. This, from the same Luke whose past campaigns smell of more Dominican CBI seasoning than a Sunday stew. I invite him to call on Prime Minister Skerritt to dismantle Dominica’s entire CBI apparatus. But don’t hold your breath—cowards seldom bite the hand that bankrolled them.
Let’s not be fooled by the costume change. Luke isn’t against CBI—he just prefers it as a private buffet, not a national feast. In his twisted vision, the table is set for him and his inner circle alone, while the rest of us are left sniffing the aroma from outside the window. Vincentians, especially the poor and working class, are apparently too uncultured to sip from the same chalice of opportunity.
But here’s the thing about Luke Browne—he suffers from a rare political condition: delusions of relevance. East Kingstown has rejected him time and time again, and rightly so. The man speaks of integrity while walking on stilts made of hollow ambition and soaked hypocrisy. His moral compass spins like a weather vane in a hurricane—never quite landing on truth, but always pointing toward self-interest.
So let it be declared, loudly and with the clarity of gospel truth: Luke Browne shall never win East Kingstown. Not because we don’t know him, but precisely because we do. He’s the candidate who campaigns in poetry and governs in riddles—except even his poems are plagiarized and his riddles never land.
The people have seen the show, and they’re tired of the act. Curtain call, Mr. Browne. Exit stage left.
