After a years-long hiatus, the National Ragga Soca Monarch and Power Soca Monarch Semifinals are making a highly anticipated return to the local entertainment calendar. The event, dubbed “Bacchanal Bay,” is set to bring a refreshing twist to the semifinals experience.
Speaking on the return of the event, CEO of the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC), Rodney Small, revealed that the semifinals will be styled as a cooler fete with a beach vibe, taking place on the tarmac. “People have been asking, ‘But the tarmac doesn’t have a bay,’” Small said with a laugh. “So, we’ve challenged creatives to transform the space — when you arrive, you’ll step into a beach-like atmosphere right on the tarmac.”
The festivities begin at 2 PM with beach games to set the mood, followed by the main show starting at 4 PM, featuring 40 artistes — 20 in Ragga Soca and 20 in Power Soca. According to Small, the response has been overwhelming, with over 100 applications submitted by hopefuls eager to compete. 10 artistes would be selected to challenge 2024 winners Hance John and Delroy “Fireman ” Hopper .
In keeping with the event’s accessible and inclusive spirit, admission will be just $30 — with no early bird specials or VIP sections. “We’re keeping it simple. One flat price. We’re encouraging everyone to come out, support the artistes, and enjoy some clean, festive fun,” Small emphasized.
The event would take place on Sunday June 22nd 2025
