The Traffic Branch of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) has launched an investigation into a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred around 7:19 p.m. on Friday, June 27, at the decommissioned E.T. Joshua Airport tarmac.
The crash claimed the life of Hy Ellis, a Vincentian promoter of Brighton and the USA.
Preliminary reports indicate that motor vehicle P-233, a blue Toyota Vitz driven by 23-year-old police recruit Christopher Richardson of Mesopotamia, and motor vehicle P-222, a white Mercedes-Benz AMG SUV driven by the deceased, were traveling in opposite directions on the tarmac — P-222 heading north and P-233 heading south toward the sea.
Upon reaching the vicinity of the Girls’ High School, the vehicles collided. The impact caused P-222 to flip multiple times before landing on its roof.
Ellis was pronounced dead on the scene by a medical doctor. Richardson reportedly suffered severe head pain and was transported to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Officers from both the Traffic Branch and Criminal Records Office (CRO) processed the scene. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
Investigations are ongoing.
