Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines – Tuesday, July 1, 2025 –
To mark the first anniversary of Hurricane Beryl’s impact on the nation, the New Democratic Party (NDP) has stepped forward to recognize the perseverance of students in the Southern Grenadines. On Monday, June 30, 2025, NDP President and Leader of the Opposition, Honourable Dr. Godwin Friday, and Member of Parliament for the Southern Grenadines, Honourable Terrence Ollivierre, visited several schools in the region and presented cash awards to students who recently completed their CSEC and CAPE examinations.

The initiative, described by the party as a gesture of solidarity and encouragement, comes in response to the extraordinary hardships students and families endured in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, which devastated parts of the Grenadines in July 2024.

“This has been one of the most challenging years in living memory for the people of the Southern Grenadines,” said Dr. Friday. “Despite these hardships, these students have shown remarkable resilience in continuing their education and worked tirelessly during the academic year.”
MP Ollivierre praised the collective effort behind the students’ success. “The commitment and dedication demonstrated by these students are truly inspiring and serve as a shining example across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines,” he said. “We also pay a special tribute to the parents, families, teachers, and the community who have supported them over the past year, in the most trying circumstances.”
The NDP says this initiative is part of its ongoing commitment to uplift communities still recovering from the storm, particularly in the Southern Grenadines where many homes, schools, and livelihoods were severely affected.
