Mahasarakham University, Thailand where Mr. Cordero Telesford of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines recently completed a prestigious international training programme focused on strengthening primary health care systems. The initiative brought together public health professionals from across the globe, including representatives from the Bahamas, Fiji, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Kenya, Zambia, Nigeria, Myanmar, Cambodia, Morocco, Algeria, and many others.
The training offered a rich cultural exchange and knowledge-sharing platform, allowing participants to learn from the diverse approaches each country employs in building resilient health systems. Sessions covered areas such as workforce development, digital health, policy reform, and community-based primary care.
Mr. Telesford noted, “It was a privilege to sit in rooms filled with persons carrying decades of knowledge and passion for public health. I not only learned from others but was encouraged to see how our own efforts in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are making an impact. Several delegates expressed interest in visiting our country after hearing about some of our initiatives.”
The four-week programme was marked by interactive workshops, field visits, and cross-country collaboration. As global health systems continue to navigate the post-pandemic landscape, experiences like this play a key role in building leadership and fostering international partnerships.
This global experience highlighted the importance of preparedness, equity, and people-centred care in health policy and delivery principles Telesford hopes to continue advocating for in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
